A file containing code written in Structured Query Language (SQL)<\/strong>, is called a \u2018SQL file<\/strong>.\u2019 A SQL file ends with a \u2018.sql\u2019 extension<\/strong>. SQL is used to communicate with relational database systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this tutorial, I will explain how to open a SQL file in Microsoft Windows operating system<\/strong> using two programs (a) MySQL Workbench 8.0 CE for Windows<\/strong> and (b) Windows Notepad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MySQL Workbench<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • To open an\u00a0SQL file in MySQL workbench<\/strong>, open\u00a0Mysql Workbench<\/strong>. If you haven\u2019t already installed MySQL Workbench on your pc you can get it from here.\u00a0https:\/\/dev.mysql.com\/downloads\/workbench\/<\/strong>, you also need to\u00a0install Microsoft Visual C++ 2019<\/strong>\u00a0as a dependency for MySQL workbench which can be availed from here.\u00a0https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/cpp\/windows\/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • Go to files in the\u00a0top left corner<\/strong>\u00a0and select \u2018Open SQL Script<\/strong>.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Alternatively, press the CTRL+SHIFT+O<\/strong> combination from your keyboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Browse and select the\u00a0\u2018.sql\u2019 file<\/strong>\u00a0you wish to open and click on\u00a0open<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
